The Ultimate Atlanta Spring Pool Opening Checklist (2026 Edition)

Spring in Metro Atlanta means pollen season is right around the corner! Opening your pool correctly in late March or early April prevents heavy algae blooms and saves hundreds of dollars in shock treatment later.
Step 1: Remove and Clean the Winter Cover. Drain off pooled rainwater, clear oak leaves, and scrub the cover with a cover cleaner before folding it for summer storage.
Step 2: Inspect Equipment & Reinstall Drain Plugs. Reattach pump plugs, filter pressure gauge, and heater drain valves. Ensure O-rings are lubricated with silicone lubricant.
Step 3: Fill Pool to Mid-Skimmer Level & Start Pump. Once water level is restored, prime your pump and run the filter for at least 24 hours continuously.
Step 4: Bring Water Sample for Free In-Store Diagnostic. Before pouring chemicals blindly, bring 16oz of water to Pool Supply Atlanta at 2900 Holcomb Bridge Rd. We'll test total alkalinity, pH, free chlorine, cyanuric acid (stabilizer), and calcium hardness.
Pro Tip: Shock the pool at dusk with liquid chlorine or BioGuard Smart Shock to eliminate winter organic buildup before swimming season begins!
